Why we chose Stennack Farm for our wedding venue
When we first viewed Stennack Farm, Caroline (the owner) showed us around and it just felt right straight away. Caroline was calm, friendly, welcoming, informative and real. She made us feel comfortable immediately, which just topped the venue’s beautiful, rustic and relaxed vibes. We just knew it was the place for us!
We LOVED the accommodation and wish we didn’t live so nearby so that we could ‘holiday’ there!
How we wanted our wedding to look in terms of style and aesthetic
Our vision of our wedding day was to have a relaxed, calm and ‘together’ day with our families and loved ones. The two rooms, although separate, felt close enough that it was nice to feel that everyone was still together whichever part of the building they were in. We just wanted to celebrate our love for each other with the others that we love. We continually said ‘let’s just get the legal bit done and then party’, and that is mostly what we did, starting with a round of shots for everyone at the end of our meal.
We didn’t want to have to decorate a venue lots, both to save money and time, and Stennack Farm provided that. We didn’t need to put many of our own decorations up due to the beautiful building being enough itself, along with the decorations already in place, such as the drapes, chandelier, fairy lights, etc.
Our amazing photographer
Kelly, our photographer (Kelly Paige Photography) and Ami, our videographer (Ami Darling Photography) were amazing, they worked well together, having never met before and both made us feel comfortable and relaxed, which was exactly what we wanted.
Our caterers and all about our wedding food
We found our caterers from Stennack Farm’s recommended suppliers page, but we do also have family who have had Kerra’s Catering at their own weddings or events. We first tried the food from Kerra’s Catering at an open evening at Stennack Farm and then we met Kerra’s Catering at a wedding event at Trelowarren Estate, which helped us make our decision that these were the right caterers for us.
We wanted a feast-style menu, and we toyed with the idea of having platters in the middle of each table to share, but we then decided with a buffet, which was perfect. We met with Kerra and sat and worked out the kind of foods that we both like and then worked out how we could create these into dishes for our guests. We had a bit of a mixture, chicken, fish, pork belly, salads, breads and potatoes. Our guests couldn’t compliment the food more if they tried, it was great! We didn’t actually eat that much on the day, nerves took over, but what we did eat was amazing.
Dancing the night away
Rudi’s Message, our evening band was amazing, knew exactly how to get everyone involved in the party and keep them on the dancefloor. We’ve known Simon from Rudi’s Message for several years and always knew that we wanted them at our wedding.
Where we found the perfect dress
Finding my wedding dress was one of the hardest parts of planning the wedding. Being an extremely indecisive person generally doesn’t help, of course. Myself, along with my Mum and Auntie trapsed around 7-plus bridal shops – one bridal shop informed me that it was likely that I’d tried on 40-plus dresses during my dress shopping experience.
Eventually I saw a bridal shop share a ‘real’ bride photo in a dress I thought I loved the look of, so I messaged to see if they had this instore and went to try it on myself. The dress was beautiful, but very BIG and unfortunately the last one, typically … Anyway, with an amazing seamstress we were able to make this dress fit me, dropping roughly five dress sizes. My dress was finally bought from Coastal Bridal in Mevagissey, on my second visit to this shop. Note: My wedding dress was in the shop when I fist visited four months prior, but I didn’t try it on or see it as ‘jumping out’ to me.
Our perfect selection of suppliers
Our suppliers were carefully selected based on recommendations, reviews and people we knew. All of our suppliers were friendly and communicated well. Some of which have worked at Stennack Farm together in the past. We found the recommendation list on Stennack’s website really useful.
The Wave Machine (Angus Trott) – Angus agreed to play music during the afternoon at our wedding. Having never done a wedding before, we reassured him it would be extremely chilled and his feedback proved that it was just that. Many of our guests had not seen or heard of Angus before, and said how brilliant he was and how they would definitely go to his gigs, often near the beach, to see him again.
Our wedding cakes were AMAZING, a huge talking point, they looked beautiful and served as our dessert too! We’re not all that traditional and weren’t sure about ‘cutting’ the cake, so opted for mini cakes for each person and a slightly bigger one for us to share. Polly Webb did an amazing job with our cakes, they looked and tasted great!
Looking back, we would have done this differently
I don’t think we’d particularly choose to do anything differently, but following feedback of our families, it might have been better for us to use speakers during our outside ceremony. But we have it on video for them to see, the people at the front could hear and we could hear each and other which is the main thing.
Our favourite part of the day
We can’t choose a favourite part of the day because we loved it all. We wish we could have had longer as the day flew by, we’d love to do it all over again!
After 13 years together, we couldn’t have wished for a better day tying the knot and officially becoming husband and wife in the most beautiful setting.
Again, thank you so much! We cannot wait for the next excuse to use Stennack Farm as a venue.
Rhianne and Josh were married at Stennack Farm in June 2024. Thank you for choosing us as your venue!
